Having taught in a variety of primary schools and been a Primary Headteacher for 23 years, I now solely focus on teaching singing to pupils of varying ages and abilities. My main aim is to make lessons fun whilst building upon an individuals self-confidence. I combine technical exercises and a variety of warm ups with learning songs which appeal to the pupil and which also ensure progress and enjoyment.
I am happy to prepare pupils to take part in competitions such as the local Kettering and District Eisteddfod or for other local or national events and also undertake work with pupils for auditions.
Should a pupil wish to take singing exams I offer:
Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) classical singing; Prep Test, Grades 1 – 8
London College of Music (LCM) music theatre, duet singing: all grades to Diploma Level
Together with the pupil, the selection of pieces will be made, I then teach the syllabus including any exam requirements such as aural tests and sight singing and I enter the pupil for the exam.
I have full Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), the Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS) and the Association of British Choral Directors (ABCD). My application for ISM Registered Private Teacher status was approved in October 2016, after ISM received a really fantastic reference from one of my students.
As well as teaching singing, I am the Musical Director to the Wollaston Singers. I was delighted to being involved in leading a ‘scratch’ choir for “Sing”, an evening of music for Cransley Hospice and as a result, I lead The Frutones, a workplace choir, who had so much enjoyment working towards the event, they are carrying on singing. Just to add to my collection of choirs, I also work with the ladies of the Wellingborough based breast cancer charity ‘Crazy Hats’ offering ‘Singing for Health and Well-Being’ and developing their scratch choir.
